2nd East Africa Grantmakers Conference

2ND GRANTMAKERS CONFERENCE

Introduction and Rationale

In June 2010, the East Africa Association of Grantmakers (EAAG) organized the first ever East African Regional Conference on Grantmaking in Nairobi, Kenya. The highly successful conference brought together participants from grantmaking and other civil society organizations in East Africa and beyond, and provided a great interaction platform for learning and networking. Assessment of the conference revealed that many participants were interested in participating in similar conferences in the future.

Drawing from the success of the first conference and in line with EAAGs strategic objective of creating a vibrant network of members and Grantmakers, we are pleased to announce the Second Annual Conference. As was the case last year, this years’ conference will serve as a forum for our members and CSO to network and share knowledge and experiences in grantmaking. The conference will also provide EAAG with an opportunity to share with participants findings of our twin research projects; on State and Nature of Philanthropy in East Africa, and Reflections on the Tax Policy Environment for Philanthropy in East Africa.

Conference Objectives

  1. To disseminate two key research findings on the state of philanthropy in East Africa
  2. To discuss challenges and opportunities for philanthropy in East Africa
  3. To share with participants information on modern trends in resource mobilization
  4. To create a forum for grantmaking and other philanthropic institutions to share knowledge and experiences on philanthropy in East Africa and provide them with networking opportunities

Conference Format

Conference activities will be a combination of expert presentations, learning sessions, and panel discussions, all theses inundated with creative art presentations and exhibition. Analysis from last year’s conference participants reveals a huge appetite for information on resource mobilization and grant management. This year conference will include at least two sessions of expert presentations on fundraising and resource mobilization for non-profits.
