Objectives

OVERIDING OBJECTIVES

  • To demonstrate and promote philanthropy in East Africa as an integral strategy for permanent wealth-creation for social development;
  • To promote ethical practices in grant making as a tool for development;
    To support members with learning and capacity-building opportunitiesfor effective asset-development, management, governance, and grant making;
  • To strengthen the individual and collective identity, credibility,
    coordination and positioning of its members;
  • To engage effectively with Governments, the private sector and civil society partners to influence policy and the enabling environment

GENERAL OBJECTIVES

  • To demonstrate and promote philanthropy in East Africa as an integral strategy for permanent wealth-creation for social development;
  • To promote ethical practices in grantmaking as a tool for development;
  • To support members with learning and capacity-building opportunities for effective asset-development, management, governance, and grantmaking;
  • To strengthen the individual and collective identity, credibility, coordination, and positioning of its members;
  • To engage effectively with Governments, private sector, and civil society partners to influence policy and the enabling environment

In furtherance of the said Objects but not otherwise, the Association may

  • Advise and assist communities and institutions wishing to create new charitable grant-making trusts and oundations.
  • Hold or promote seminars, courses, conferences, programs, meetings and other events.
  • Bring together in conference individuals and representatives of members, trusts, foundations, voluntary organizations, government departments, statutory authorities, the corporate sector, and other relevant bodies and organizations.
  • Cause to be written or printed or otherwise reproduced and circulated, gratuitously or otherwise, papers, books, periodicals, pamphlets, other documents, films or recorded tapes.
  • Collect and disseminate information on all matters affecting the Objects by exchange of information with other bodies having similar objects, whether in East Africa or elsewhere.
  • Co-operate with any charitable non-political institutions, trusts, associations or bodies, the objects of which are wholly or in part similar to those of the Association.
  • Commission, finance or otherwise promote research projects concerned with the collective effectiveness of charitable grant-making members and publish the useful results thereof.
  • Collect, analyse, evaluate, and make available such information research and other data as may assist members to be more effective in their philanthropic work.
  • Provide or procure the provision of specialist advisory services for members.
  • Employ and pay any person or persons to supervise, organize and carry out the work of the Association and make all reasonable and necessary provision for payment or compensation for their services.
  • Purchase, take on, lease, exchange, hire or otherwise acquire any property and any rights and privileges necessary for the promotion of the Objects and construct, maintain and alter any buildings or erections necessary for the work of the Association.
  • Make regulations for any property or resources, which may be acquired.
  • Subject to such consents as may be required by law, sell, let, mortgage, dispose of or turn to account all or any of the property or assets of the Association.
  • Subject to such consents as may be required by law, raise money for the Objects and accept gifts on such terms and on such security as shall be deemed necessary.
  • Raise funds and invite and receive contributions from any person or persons whatsoever by way of subscriptions and otherwise.
  • Invest the moneys of the Association not immediately required for the Objects in such investments, securities or property as may be thought fit.
  • Make any charge or impose such fee in respect of the provision of services or goods to member and non-members, individuals, and organizations, as the Board of the Association (hereinafter mentioned) may from time to time think fit.
  • Establish an endowment or other fund to receive grants, donations, gifts and other assistance in any form whatsoever from East Africa or from any other source for any of the Objects and to establish
  • onprofit–making foundations in any country for the purpose of receiving donations from private and corporate persons and for channeling the same to the Association’s development operations.
  • Promote or assist in the promotion of any organization or other body having objects similar to those of the Association.
  • Do all such other lawful things as are necessary, conducive, or desirable for the attainment of the Object.
